WELCOME sculpture at Alex Hospital, Redditch

The new WELCOME sculpture at the Alex Hospital, Redditch creates a welcoming and attractive space for all patients, visitors, and staff. Expertly crafted in wood, the unique artwork helps people to feel less anxious on arrival, and to begin their hospital journey in a more positive mindset. Over 4 weeks in 2025 @neithandartsculpture worked with clinical and non-clinical NHS staff at the hospital ‪@WorcsAcuteNHS‬ and with local community members at REACH CiC, Woodrow to co-create the final design. Stories shared in the co-creation workshops included ideas of connectedness, friendship, community, and everyone being a vital link in the chain and circular themes of life and care. The sculpture represents these stories and is also inspired by the hands of the people who took part, hands that help form the circle of care and community that is the hospital. The team behind this project hope that it will bring people together and create a focal point at the entrance to the Alex that communicates a message of compassion and inclusivity, and which represents Redditch and the surrounding communities. In partnership with Worcestershire Acute Hospitals Charity and Arts in Redditch, Reimagine Redditch fundraised almost £30,000 from Arts Council England to commission the WELCOME art installation. ‪@jamessilvanusfilms‬ created this wonderful film to tell the story of the project, filming at different stages throughout the creative process and life of the project.
