Why did Jesus die for you and what did He mean when He said, “It is finished”? Discover how the cross reveals God’s love, fulfills His promises, and offers forgiveness we could never earn.
In “It Was Always Jesus,” Jeff Evans continues our study of the chronological life of Christ by exploring the crucifixion through Mark 15, Luke 23, and John 19. From the grace offered to the thief on the cross to the prophecies of Psalm 22, Scripture reveals the significance of Jesus’ sacrifice.
Jeff explores Tetelestai, the Greek word translated “It is finished,” and explains its significance through the pictures of a debt paid in full, a victory won, and a penalty satisfied. Jesus’ declaration points to His completed work: He willingly took our place, paid the price for our sins, and opened the way for us to come into God’s presence.
You don’t have to clean yourself up before coming to Jesus. His grace is a gift—and His invitation is to receive it, turn from sin, and follow Him.
As we trace God’s promises through the Old Testament to the cross, one truth becomes clear: it was always Jesus!
