Go Football Podcast – Episode 66 Approach the Coach What really happens when parents have a problem with the coach? In this episode of the Go Football Podcast, Steve looks at one of the most sensitive areas of grassroots football, communication between parents and coaches. At some point, most parents will have a question or concern. Maybe their child isn’t playing enough, they’ve been moved position, they’re not getting the opportunities they expected, or perhaps they simply don’t understand a decision the coach has made. And eventually comes the thought: “I’m going to approach the coach.” But what happens next? This episode explores how perfectly reasonable conversations can sometimes turn into frosty WhatsApp messages, sideline disagreements, parent groups taking sides and arguments that quickly become bigger than the original issue. Steve looks at both sides of the conversation, including what parents may not see from the coach’s perspective. ⚽ In this episode: Why parents sometimes feel they need to approach the coach What coaches are dealing with behind the scenes Where communication between parents and coaches breaks down Why WhatsApp can make disagreements worse The problem with discussing coaches with other parents How rumours and side conversations can escalate situations Why coaches also need to communicate better How to approach a coach without creating confrontation Why difficult conversations are better handled privately When players themselves should speak to their coach Keeping children out of adult disagreements Building trust between coaches, parents and players The importance of listening to both sides One of the biggest messages from this episode is simple: It’s not about winning the argument. It’s about finding the best solution for the player. Parents have every right to ask questions. Coaches have every right to explain their decisions. But the way that conversation happens can make all the difference. So before sending that angry WhatsApp message or starting a sideline debate, perhaps we should ask: “What am I actually trying to achieve?” Because sometimes the best way forward isn’t another message in the group chat… It’s simply approaching the coach and having a conversation. 🎧 Listen to Episode 66 – Approach the Coach of the Go Football Podcast. 📧 GoFootballPod@gmail.com ⚽ Go Football Podcast ⚽ Go Football Coaching Two sides.
