Pole position, best lap, and a lead we should never have given up — this is the China Sprint, and it's a hard one to watch back.
Mixed wet/dry conditions, just a 5-lap dash, and we controlled it beautifully off the line and through the opening laps. The tyres were fine, the weather wasn't changing, and there was no real reason to pit. But when the engineers floated the idea of boxing anyway, curiosity got the better of us — we just had to check on those tyres. One wrong button press later, and the lead we'd built was gone on the final lap.
Frustrating doesn't quite cover it. We still walk away with points and the championship lead intact, but this one stings — a race we genuinely had "in the bag."
