"Why did you turn into a monster?" ft. Gregory Pettys

When I visited Chiang Mai, Thailand, earlier this year, I got to sit down and dialogue with Gregory Pettys and Ramphai Noikaew of Panya Forest, as well as Thai Elder Jon Jandai of Pun Pun Organic Farm. Gregory and Ramphai are both community members of Pun Pun. This is the first of those three conversations — where Gregory and I chat about a different kind of materialism, a different kind of privilege, and what it means to not just be seed savers but also carriers of their stories. ~~~ OVERVIEW 08:11 What does it mean to be free? 11:18 What does real community ask of us? 16:53 Real community isn't always pretty 17:45 What happens when we lose connection with our ancestors? 23:30 How do we reckon with difficult ancestral histories? 27:56 How Greg moves through tension 30:10 What has Jon Jandai taught Greg about living? 35:15 Seeds, stories, and the monoculture of the mind 40:17 Panya Forest and building relationships across difference 41:43 Closing remarks ~~~ GO DEEPER Watch my full conversation with Ramphai here:    • Rebuilding community, saving seeds, and re...   Watch my full conversation with Jon Jandai of Pun Pun here:    • Jon Jandai on redefining wealth and making...   Watch the video immerse PRELUDE to this series, a walk through Panya Forest and Pun Pun, here:    • [PRELUDE] Villaging in Chiang Mai, Thailand   ~~~ *Learn more about Panya Forest here: https://www.panyaforest.com *Find Gregory on Substack here: https://gregorypettys.substack.com/ *The featured song in this episode is "Sik Gong Gaw" by ‪@KLEEBHO‬ — a band from Chiang Mai that sings about the heritage of the Pgakenyaw people :    • KLEE BHO - Sik Gong Gaw 「Official Audio」   ~~~~~~~~~~ MORE LOVING, LIBERATING, AND LIFE AFFIRMING WORLDS ARE POSSIBLE.
