The Sunday Stereo EP 2 feat. JSCA : Summer House Mix

For this set I found myself thinking about New York. Not the tourist version, but the one I remember from living there in my 20’s and 30’s. It’s 2pm on a Summer Friday at a rooftop Like Mr. Purple on the Lower East Side. The workweek is finally over, drinks are in hand, flights are booked, and for a few hours everyone gets to forget about Monday. Musically, this mix leans a little further into house music than my first set. It's still rooted in the melodic, soulful sound I'm drawn to, but with a little more grit, a little more energy, and a little more city. I also felt more comfortable behind the decks this time around. The transitions are smoother, I experimented with a few subtle sound effects, and for the first time I started thinking less about individual songs and more about the experience of moving from one track to the next. The biggest lesson this mix taught me was that building a DJ set is much harder than I thought it would be. Finding songs you love is one thing, but building a journey where every track naturally moves to the next one is something else entirely. Looking back, I can hear moments where the set wants to go in different directions. The songs all belong in the same world but they don't always tell the same story.
