I know the whole "Song of the Welkin Moon" thing was quite contentious when it was announced, and there are things I wish they'd done differently - but purely in terms of story and music, I really loved this whole year. I'm glad they took the time they did to introduce all these characters (the Mondstadt ones especially!! I was so happy with all the Mondstadt love), and Nod Krai is a beautiful place. One of the first places that really stood out to me was the Final Night Cemetery, precisely because of its music. This is a very personal connotation, but it actually reminds me of a specific type of music my dad would listen to in the evenings when I was quite little; I'd already gone to bed because of school the next morning, but he'd do his evening chores (or drink a glass of wine haha) downstairs while listening to an album by saxophonist Jan Garbarek and the Hilliard Ensemble, called Officium. It was very calming, meditative music that really helped me drift off to sleep, and so when I heard "Grief Spreading Like Haze" for the first time, I was flooded with this overwhelming sense of comfort. 🥹 And so I ended up spending a lot of time in the Final Night Cemetery, just taking in the scenery and the music. That's why I picked this track to be the one to see off the Nod Krai patch on my channel.
