The Education Nobody Prepared Us For | Why a Degree Is No Longer Enough

Education is changing, and the world of work is changing with it. For generations, we were taught a simple formula: go to school, get good grades, earn a degree, get a job and build a career. But technology, artificial intelligence, digital transformation and changing employer expectations are reshaping the skills people need to succeed. In this YOUNIVERSITY.NG documentary, we explore the changing relationship between education, skills, careers, employment and the future of work. We look at: • Why a degree is not the entire career story • The growing importance of practical skills • The skills gap and school-to-work transition • How AI and technology are changing jobs • Why continuous learning matters • The difference between learning and applying knowledge • Why portfolios and practical experience matter • The skills employers increasingly value • How young people can prepare for a changing labour market • Why education should continue beyond graduation This isn't an argument against university or formal education. It's a conversation about what education needs to become in a rapidly changing world. Welcome to YOUNIVERSITY.NG — Skills, knowledge, careers and practical education for the real world.
