GUASTO — Exploring DARK AND WEIRD Vol. 01 | Random Sampling Machine

GUASTO is a six-track sampler-sequencer designed to create patterns that never quite repeat the same way. In this video I’m exploring GUASTO together with **DARK AND WEIRD Vol. 01**, the sound library included with the instrument — 253 original recordings covering Percussivo, Grana, Basso, Voce, Drone and Sorgenti. Each of GUASTO’s six tracks has its own sample, step grid, length and speed. Different divisions and step counts make the tracks constantly drift against each other, creating patterns that slowly mutate instead of simply looping. I’m using the random system to generate sounds and patterns, exploring the four playback modes — TAPE, ONE-SHOT, SLICE and GRAIN — together with probability, repeats, pitch, reverse and independent track timing. The video also goes into the darker side of GUASTO, including the *CANNIBAL* system: a 4-second buffer that progressively rewrites and mutates itself, with controls for DIGEST, MUTATE, SHIFT, RING, SCRAMBLE, OCTAVE and PREY.
