The Seegrotte near Vienna is Europe's largest underground lake – and in 1944 it became a Nazi jet factory.
Sixty metres below Hinterbrühl near Vienna lies a lake nobody planned: a gypsum mine flooded in 1912, rediscovered in 1932 – and in 1944 drained and turned into an underground factory for Heinkel He 162 jet fighter fuselages, built by prisoners of a Mauthausen subcamp.
A short drive away stands Burg Liechtenstein, the castle that gave its name to an entire country in 1719 – at a time when the family didn't even own it. And in the ruin of Burg Mödling, we find out why a famous legend about Walther von der Vogelweide picked the wrong poet.
Filmed on location by Emily & Alex.
