Who Is Modern Warfare 4 Actually For?

Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 4 opens campaign early access on October 16 for digital pre-orders, with the full launch on October 23. Infinity Ward, Activision, and the first Call of Duty to release only on ninth-generation hardware: Switch 2, PS5, PC and Xbox Series X|S. And the detail I find most telling: this is not on Game Pass at launch. Black Ops 6 and Black Ops 7 both were. This one is expected there at least a year later. So what is Modern Warfare 4 for? It's correcting, it's remembering, and in one specific way it's moving forward. What I can't work out is whether a correction this comprehensive reads as listening or as panic.
