The drive begins at the park entrance off US-191 near Moab, Utah, climbing the dramatic switchbacks up the sandstone cliffs to the plateau above. The road passes the towering fins of Park Avenue and the monoliths of Courthouse Towers before crossing the Petrified Dunes with the La Sal Mountains on the horizon. At Balanced Rock, a 3,600-ton boulder perched on its eroding pedestal, the tour turns onto the Windows Section spur for some of the densest arch scenery on Earth: North Window, South Window, Turret Arch, and the massive twin spans of Double Arch. Back on the main park road, the drive takes the spur past Wolfe Ranch to the Delicate Arch Viewpoint, with a distant view of the most famous arch in the world, the icon on Utah's license plate. The route continues past the maze of sandstone fins at the Fiery Furnace viewpoint, then north past Sand Dune Arch and Skyline Arch to the end of the road at Devils Garden, home of Landscape Arch, one of the longest natural spans on the planet, before the return drive descends back through the park to the entrance. Arches National Park contains over 2,000 documented natural arches, the densest concentration anywhere on Earth.
