Architect Justin Guiab built this home for his young family without any formal plans. He started by visiting the site, observing and meditating for hours on where to build. Guiab sought the help of his neighbors - locals who have also built their own homes - to build his. On both ends of a long thatched roof are concrete rooms. The large space in between has a long concrete table functioning as both the kitchen and dining area. The latest addition to the home is Guiab's office in the front next to his son's treehouse. The office is a glazed room full of design books and magazines, its ceiling and walls clad in tree bark. A Flag Halyard Lounge Chair by Hans J. Wegner sits quietly in one corner. Raising his family so close to nature has challenges - they must share the house with bats, birds and insects. They can go to the beach in 20 minutes, go fishing in the river nearby, and feed their chickens. "It's nice for my son to also see the cycle of life," Guiab says that his son visits the pond and sees the tadpoles hatch from eggs and tadpoles turn into frogs whereas just reading it in a book.
