Cruising through the small towns and backroads along US-40 (Nat’l Pike), we rolled into Pennsylvania around 2 p.m. Eastern time. This stretch is part of the historic National Road—also known as the Cumberland Road or Main Street of America—a federally funded highway built between 1811 and 1834 to link the eastern U.S. with the western frontier. In Pennsylvania, it traces much of U.S. Route 40, with certain sections preserved as “Old Route 40” or designated scenic byways. Columbus will land us coming out of the rain, with mostly cloudy and high 81, with tomorrow a tad warmer with only 8% chance of rain.
