Warning: Long description ahead. Coffee highly recommended. ☕
I always say that every route I create for ROUVY has a story behind it. The video you are about to watch has its own story, too.
Last weekend, I was in Marmaris for the L’Étape by Tour de France Marmaris event. To be honest, I didn't originally plan to go to Marmaris, and I hadn't even considered participating in the race. But somehow, all the pieces fell into place.
At the same time, I am preparing to film the Konya Gran Fondo route for ROUVY, which will take place on June 28th on closed roads. Regarding this project, officials from the Konya Metropolitan Municipality asked me if I would be in Marmaris. I told them that I hadn't planned on going to Konya or Marmaris. However, I mentioned that since they would be there, I could come to meet them.
Thus, the real reason I went to Marmaris was to meet with the municipal officials from Konya. While walking around the Expo area, I started considering the possibility of registering for the race. After all, I had brought my bike with me. Perhaps, just perhaps, I might have a chance to participate.
When I asked in the morning, they told me that registration had closed. However, in the afternoon, I saw people still signing up. I went back to an official and asked, "Has registration not closed?" They replied, "No, registration is still ongoing."
As soon as I heard that, I registered immediately. I was incredibly excited.
The day after the race, I filmed the route for ROUVY. I would like to reiterate that I did this for myself as well, but my primary goal was to bring this route to ROUVY. The recording time was a little over an hour and thirty minutes, and I will be trimming some parts.
So, the L’Étape Marmaris route will be on ROUVY soon.
The natural beauty of the region is truly incredible. Being able to capture even a portion of the scenery I saw while on my bike is something very special to me.
Apart from that, there is another interesting detail. When you think about it, indirectly, the main reason for my trip to Marmaris actually turns out to be ROUVY.
Why ROUVY?
Because ROUVY introduced me to the officials from the Konya Metropolitan Municipality. ROUVY asked me if I would go to Konya. When you look at how events unfolded, the underlying reason for me being at that race yesterday was actually ROUVY. It is a detail that might seem small but is significant. That is why I always say that every route has a story.
Marmaris is about 270–280 kilometers away from İzmir. On the way, there is the famous Sakar Pass. While passing by, I thought to myself, "I must film this."
That is why I recorded the descent of Sakar Pass.
What you will see in this video is only the descent of Sakar Pass. It has no direct connection to the L’Étape Marmaris route; it is just the descent section.
On Monday, the day after the race, I filmed the race route. Later, while returning to İzmir, I stopped by Sakar Pass again and this time recorded it as a special downhill route.
As a result, I currently have three separate recordings ready and waiting to be processed.
For now, I have uploaded the L’Étape Marmaris route and am waiting for the processing to complete. If I remember correctly, the previous route was processed quite quickly, in a day or two. I hope the upload process will be completed just as quickly this time.
As soon as it is ready, I will edit the route and open it for everyone to ride.
