Mazurka, op. 12, no. 3. Composer, Joel Engel. Pianist, Byron Schenkman.

Mazurka, op. 12, no.3 Joel Engel, composer Byron Schenkman, pianist A mazurka is often a lively dance that finds it's roots in Poland and has a rich history intertwined with Jewish culture. For centuries, Jewish communities have contributed significantly to Poland's cultural landscape. The Jewish community preserved the mazurka as a dance-song long after it fell out of favor as a social dance. Joel Engel, who was a composer, critic, and scholar, incorporated elements of the mazurka into this work for piano. Engel and his fellow members of the Society for Jewish Folk Music were leading figures in the Jewish art music movement.
