Il Giardino dell’Iris di Firenze si trova all'angolo fra il viale dei Colli e Piazzale Michelangelo, su un pendio collinare ricco di olivi, prati e aiuole e un laghetto per la coltivazione dei fiori acquatici. È un’oasi verde molto speciale nel cuore della città, fondata dalla Società Italiana dell’Iris, formata da appassionati coltivatori di questo fiore che dal 1251 è il simbolo di Firenze. Il Giardino è aperto per circa un mese all’anno tra aprile e maggio (il resto dell’anno su prenotazione) nel momento in cui si possono ammirare in piena fioritura più di 1500 varietà di iris provenienti da ogni parte del mondo. Qui infatti vengono coltivate centinaia di varietà di iris, che aumentano di anno in anno, selezionate a partire dalla specie capostipite. Il Giardino è anche meta di botanici, ibridatori e orticoltori provenienti da più paesi per l'interesse scientifico che riveste in quanto importante riserva di germoplasma, ovvero banca dei geni dell'iris. The garden is open for around one month a year between April and May (the rest of the year it is open upon booking only), when you can admire over 1,500 varieties of iris from all over the world in full bloom.
