ArchForm Tutorial – Class II Correction and Midline Deviation with Simple and Advanced Timeline
In this tutorial, we present the ArchForm treatment planning of a Class II case with midline deviation treated with clear aligners.
The objective is to compare the two Timeline modes available in ArchForm: Simple and Advanced, highlighting the main advantages and limitations of each approach.
The Simple Timeline allows treatment to be organized quickly and intuitively. Its main advantages are visual clarity, ease of use, and rapid modification of the overall movement sequence. It is especially useful for an initial setup or for cases where highly detailed staging control is not required.
Its main limitation appears when asymmetric movements are needed, or when we want to define exactly when specific teeth should start or stop moving.
In these situations, the Advanced Timeline offers greater control.
This mode allows a more precise sequencing of tooth movement, making it possible to decide which teeth move during each phase and to avoid combining too many different movements within the same stage.
In a Class II case with midline deviation, this level of control can be particularly useful for coordinating mesiodistal movements, anterior alignment, and progressive midline correction.
The main advantage of the Advanced Timeline is therefore greater biomechanical and sequential control. Its disadvantage is that it requires more planning time and a more carefully designed treatment strategy.
Both modes can be useful. The Simple Timeline is efficient for fast and global planning, while the Advanced Timeline provides greater control over the movement sequence.
This case demonstrates how the same final treatment objective can be approached with different staging strategies, and why the sequence of movement can be just as important as the final tooth position.
