Bella Ciao – A Song of Resistance #antifascists #italian #folk #Spain #moneyheist #protest #music #bellaciao This is an Italian song of resistance and freedom against the right-wing fascists. It was probably made more famous after it was used in the Spanish Show, La Casa de Papel or Money Heist, which was released on Netflix As an Italian folk song it originated in the 19th Century and the rice fields of northern Italy. The lyrics were later changed and it was said to be used by the partisans fighting against the Nazis in WWII, in particular by the CLN (Comitato di Liberazione Nazionale). However, whilst this history may sound honourable it is not possible to completely verify it. So, like a lot of old songs there is a mix of mystery and truth, it seems unlikely that it was actually sung during the war, but became popular in the post-war period as a way to commemorate those who fought against the Nazis.
