A listener note before you press play. This conversation includes grooming by a church leader, an eating disorder, and drug addiction.
Elaine Mingus's father moved the family out of Houston to keep his kids safe. They started going to church in a small Texas town, where the youth pastor was grooming Elaine and other girls in the group.
When it came out, the senior pastor spoke before her family could. He said the youth pastor had confessed, and that the church believed she seduced him.
It was the nineties. Nobody said the word grooming. She buried it and carried the shame instead, which turned into eight years of bulimia and an almost daily heroin addiction.
Then she walked into a church, saw the crucifix, and found answers to questions she did not know she was asking.
Today she is Mrs. Texas, a mother of seven, and the founder of helping women use their story and platform to get visible, land sponsors, and build something that outlasts the crown.
In this episode she talks about why the goalpost keeps moving, and how yesterday's success quietly becomes today's baseline. She lays out the system she uses with clients, one overarching story and five signature stories underneath it. And she leaves one line worth writing down. You are not responsible for the outcome. You are responsible for the action.
