Pianist Wouter Smits plays Étude op. 7 no. 4 (Vivo) in F sharp major, dedicated to Vladimir Rimsky-Korsakov, composed in July 1908 by Russian composer Igor Stravinsky (1882-1971). Filled with syncopation and staccato articulation, the lively fourth etude combines tension building chromaticism with occasional moments of lyrical clarity. The miniature piece is as vivid as it is short. The perpetuum mobile-like impetus comes to an end with an F major chord, only shortly beforehand announced by a final arpeggiated upward scale. Recorded July 8, 2011 during a live performance in Tilburg, The Netherlands.
