In this video, we remove the complete steering system and front suspension from my 1966 Lincoln Continental Coupe. The steering removal includes the rag joint, pitman arm, steering box, idler arm and bracket, center link, and inner and outer tie rod ends. We then remove the front sway bar, shock absorber, brake backing plate, strut rod, coil spring and insulators (or noise reducers?), lower control arm, spindle, and upper control arm. This process also includes separating the lower and upper ball joints from the spindle. Several tools that should have worked did not fit or function properly on this suspension. I explain why conventional ball joint separators would not work, how pitman arm pullers were used to separate the ball joints, and how an OTC 7045B internal coil spring compressor had to be modified to fit this application. The detailed steering and suspension removal is performed on the driver side. After completing that side, the complete passenger side removal is shown in a timelapse.
