America’s natural-gas story is getting bigger — but the latest data reveals a more complicated picture than the headline suggests.
Recent U.S. Geological Survey assessments have identified enormous technically recoverable natural-gas resources across major formations. The Bossier Formation alone has been assessed at roughly 343.5 trillion cubic feet, while the Haynesville Formation has an estimated 47.9 trillion cubic feet of technically recoverable gas.
At the same time, the U.S. Energy Information Administration expects American natural-gas production to reach record levels in 2026, with major growth coming from the Permian and Haynesville regions.
In this video, we examine the massive gas resources beneath America, where they are located, how much could potentially be recovered, and what growing domestic production could mean for energy prices, LNG exports, electricity generation and America’s energy security.
In this video, you’ll learn:
Where America’s major natural-gas resources are located
How large the latest USGS resource estimates are
Why the Permian and Haynesville regions matter
How record U.S. gas production is changing the energy market
What LNG exports and new pipelines could mean
Why “undiscovered resources” are different from proven reserves
⚠️ Disclaimer: “Largest natural gas deposit ever” is a dramatic headline. The figures discussed here are resource assessments and estimates of technically recoverable gas, not a single newly discovered field or guaranteed production. Actual recoverable volumes can change as exploration, technology, economics and regulation evolve.
