In 1960, the US Army dragged a portable nuclear reactor across the Greenland ice sheet to power a city built inside the ice. Its name was Camp Century: 21 tunnels, a "Main Street", huts, labs, a library and even a barber shop, for up to 200 soldiers. It was also a test for Project Iceworm, a secret plan to hide up to 600 nuclear missiles under the ice, and Denmark was never asked to approve it.
Then the ice began to crush the tunnels. The camp was abandoned in 1967, and the snow buried everything it left behind: fuel, sewage, toxic chemicals and radioactive waste. In April 2024, a NASA radar flight spotted the lost city again, at least 30 metres down. This video tells the whole story with real 1960s US Army colour footage.

📌 NOTE: The Camp Century footage is real. It comes from the US Army's 1960s colour film "The City Under Ice" (Army Research & Development Progress Report No. 6), which is in the public domain. The missile footage is a US Minuteman missile in the USA (USAF film, 1963). No Iceworm missiles were ever deployed in Greenland. The NASA radar image, aircraft and Greenland footage are real. Modern Greenland, glacier and melt footage is general footage used for illustration. The maps, cross-sections and charts are illustrations; the planned Iceworm area shown is illustrative.
