Reducing Medication Waste on Ward Four | The Quality Show In this episode of The Quality Show, Pauline is joined by Claire Brindley from the Harplands Pharmacy Team to discuss a Quality Improvement (QI) project focused on reducing medication waste on Ward Four. Ward Four is a UHNM assessment unit where patients may be referred to Harplands for treatment. As a patient’s health and medication needs change, they may leave Ward Four and later return with a new set of medicines. This can result in medication that was brought in with the patient no longer being required, creating unnecessary waste. Claire explains how she is working with Ward Four to reduce the amount of medication being wasted, improve the use of Patient Own Drugs (PODs), and make better use of medicines that patients bring into hospital. The episode explores how a simple change in the way medicines are managed can make a difference to waste, resources saves the trust money. The Quality Show highlights Quality Improvement projects across our services, showcasing the work of staff who are finding new ways to improve care and make a difference.
