Three games into the Andoni Iraola era, Liverpool already have an attacking group packed with completely different weapons. Alexander Isak is back in form, Cody Gakpo is producing, Bradley Barcola has arrived, Victor Muñoz is making an impression, and Hugo Ekitike is still waiting to return. And that's before we even get into Florian Wirtz, Dominik Szoboszlai, Ryan Gravenberch, Alexis Mac Allister, Federico Chiesa and teenage talent Rio Ngumoha. So the question isn't simply who should Liverpool start? The bigger question is: How do you actually defend this Liverpool attack? Alexander Isak has started the 2026/27 Premier League campaign brilliantly, scoring three goals in his first three league appearances. After an injury-disrupted first season at Anfield, Isak is beginning to look like the striker Liverpool believed they were signing. His movement, pace, finishing and ability to attack space give Iraola a devastating focal point. Then there's Cody Gakpo. Gakpo has already produced four goal contributions in three Premier League appearances, including three assists and a goal. His movement from the left into central areas has become a major part of Liverpool's attacking threat, particularly when combining with Isak. And then Liverpool added Bradley Barcola. Barcola isn't here to become the next Mohamed Salah. Salah already created his own Liverpool legacy. Barcola brings his own qualities — explosive acceleration, direct running, 1v1 ability and the ability to attack the space behind defenders. Once he's fully integrated into Iraola's system, Liverpool could have an entirely different attacking dimension on the right. Victor Muñoz is another player worth watching. His directness, pace and willingness to attack defenders make him a dangerous option, particularly when Liverpool need to change the rhythm of a match. And the crazy part? Hugo Ekitike isn't even back yet. Once Ekitike returns, Iraola will have another striker with a different movement and combination profile. That could give Liverpool even more ways to attack depending on the opponent. Behind them, Florian Wirtz can create chances between the lines, while Szoboszlai continues to provide a goal threat from midfield. Gravenberch can carry the ball through pressure and drive Liverpool forward, while Mac Allister can control tempo and unlock defensive blocks with his passing. Even Federico Chiesa could become important if he gets a genuine opportunity, while Rio Ngumoha gives Liverpool another exciting young attacking option who can be introduced gradually. This is what makes Liverpool's attack so interesting. It's not simply about having lots of good players. It's about having different solutions. Against a deep block, Liverpool can rely on Wirtz and Gakpo's combination play. Against a high defensive line, Isak and Barcola can attack the space behind. When a match becomes stretched, Muñoz can bring pace and directness. When defenders are exhausted, fresh attackers can completely change the game. And once Ekitike returns, Liverpool could have yet another problem for opposition defences to solve.
