Rogers scattered 5 hits, and 1 walk, with 1 strikeout across his 7 scoreless innings thanks in large part to great pitches in big moments and a flawless defense behind him. He trusted his guys in the field, and they answered every time to beat a great Alpha Prime squad and advance to the 2026 PG 16U World Series National Championship game. The A's managed two base hits all afternoon. Jack Sutherland's RBI single in the bottom of the fourth turned out to be the only run either team would score. Both teams executed well on the mound and in the field, especially with runners on base. Cade Rogers pitched around every mistake and did so efficiently in the 70-pitch outing. He dialed up two groundball double play balls when the team needed it most -- including one in the top of the 7th after a leadoff walk representing the tying run on first. Sutherland made the play of the game turning 2 after a leadoff walk -- which ended up being the difference maker as the next at bat was a double down the left field line which would have tied it. Shutouts get credited to the pitcher, and Rogers earned every bit of his. He got 9 groundouts and almost as many popouts. This was a full team shutout. Every ground ball had to be fielded. Every routine play had to stay routine. Nobody rushed a throw, nobody got big, nobody tried to do more than the moment asked. Seven innings of that, with zero margin for error against a team good enough to be in the final four of the gold bracket. From the fourth inning on, one mistake ties it. They didn't make one.
