WHEN THE FEVER RETURNS TO ABUJA: THE AMANAH WE MUST NOT BETRAY
The return of Ebola to Abuja is a reminder that protecting human life is both a public responsibility and an Islamic obligation.
Allah says:
وَمَنْ أَحْيَاهَا فَكَأَنَّمَا أَحْيَا النَّاسَ جَمِيعًا
“And whoever saves a life, it is as if he had saved all mankind.” (Qur’an 5:32)
Nigeria’s experience with Ebola in 2014 taught us the importance of preparedness, professional courage, and effective public health systems. Today, we must not allow that lesson to be forgotten.
Our healthcare system requires sustained investment, adequate facilities, well supported health workers, and accountable leadership. Communities must also play their part by following public health guidance, avoiding misinformation, supporting vulnerable people, and cooperating with health authorities.
Faith is not an excuse for negligence. We trust Allah while taking the necessary precautions. Protecting lives, supporting the sick, and fulfilling our responsibilities are expressions of our faith and our collective humanity.
May Allah protect Abuja, preserve Nigeria, heal the sick, strengthen our healthcare workers, and guide our leaders towards justice and accountability. Ameen.
