An early October evening in Vestfossen. Need to hurry up a bit to still catch some light. We fly along the river Vestfosselva towards the village of Vestfossen. We end at the manor Fossesholm which has a long history.
From the early 16th century, Vestfossen has been an industrial site that began with sawmills and wood processing, but the settlement has also had an ironworks and a woolen goods factory. Around 1970, the factories were closed down. The buildings were left unused for a long time. Gradually, several cultural institutions have established themselves here and Vestfossen now calls itself the "cultural capital" of the region.
Fossesholm became a manor house as a result of the profitable sawmill operations in the 16th century. Throughout the ages, the farm has been owned by many, but the most famous is Norway's governor, Hannibal Sehested. King Christian IV's governor in Norway and the king's son-in-law. After the king's death in 1648, Sehested was accused of embezzlement and was deprived of all his property in Norway.
in 1763, the merchant Jørgen von Cappelen took over the manor. While he owned it, it was expanded and rebuilt and today the farm appears much like in his time.

En tidlig oktober kveld i Vestfossen. Må skynde meg litt for å fortsatt ha litt lys.
i 1763 overtok, kjøpmannen Jørgen von Cappelen herregården.
