This is Big Escambia Creek, where we depart from Flomaton Landing in Flomaton, AL and arrive at Fischer Landing in Century, FL. A week earlier, we had run a recon trip (watch "Big Escambia Creek: Logjam Recon Mission) to see how the recent storms had affected the creek and the established pathway. It's amazing what a lot of rain and 19ft of water will move. On this day, the huge log jam we had found across the entire creek that required us to portage around had shown us a sliver of hope on the right side that it could be reopened. Then, at the entrance to the "Enchanted Forest", the gateway, which had been completely blocked, needed to also be opened back up. An alternate entrance no one had considered was then found. The storm floodwater did us a favor in this case, by clearing out all but a couple of fallen trees. This new entrance proved to be both fun and challenging. The "Enchanted Forest" is the highlight of this trip, where the creek ends and flows through a forest before becoming a creek again, which ends at its confluence with the Escambia River. The video doesn't do justice to these very large and old trees. The final section is the Escambia River where the last mile of the trip is on this wide waterway.
