“Velvet Lies” explores the loneliness that can hide behind success. After rising from having nothing to living a life of fame, luxury, and attention, the narrator realizes that many of the people surrounding him only appeared after he became successful. Beneath the expensive cars, champagne, and bright lights is someone questioning who genuinely cares and who is simply chasing what he has.
