In this video, I journey to El Boquerón National Park, perched nearly 6,000 feet above sea level atop the San Salvador Volcano. What begins as a peaceful morning exploring lush trails, colorful gardens, sweeping crater views, and even enjoying tea on an active volcano takes a much darker turn as I uncover the dramatic history beneath my feet. We travel back to the night of June 7, 1917, when earthquakes shook San Salvador before the volcano erupted, transforming the landscape and leaving behind the crater feature known as Boqueroncito. Along the way, I share the haunting legend of a Chinese shopkeeper caught amid the catastrophe, experience some incredible drone views from the summit, and reflect on an unsettling encounter with military police on my way up the mountain.
