DM Stith - Fata Morgana

Ambiguity is generosity — fresh water holding so much life, so much time — a mirage, a mistake, a trick to help us see — I could've been a minister, but I would only ever preach that love is admitting one doesn't know, doesn't understand, can't explain, that language shivers and dissolves around the idea like moth dust, and who wants to hear that? Language dies at the threshold. Love and time are imperfect constants. An ancient lake turned pink in the sun. I remember the three of us, Grace, Luigi and me filming through a couple long days to construct a narrative video on the southern shore of Lake Ontario, must've been late summer of 2023. I had composed a shot list but of course so much shows up while filming in nature. We sat down on this spot to rest and I think I immediately announced that we were going to film a single shot ad hoc video right then. I played the song from my phone on the ground between Grace and me, and Luigi, and the sunset, and the pair of birds, just took it from there. It was an excuse to rest — both the action and the song. Ambition is "useful but hazardous when left alone..."
