While roaming around the streets of Artist Colony, Jaisalmer, and Akshara came across Hanif Khan and Jakab Khan practicing before leaving for Sam Dunes, where they play in hotels for tourists, which is their only source of income.
Hanif, a father of one, is 29 years old and has recently shifted to Jaisalmer with his family, while Jakab is a teen of the age 17; he is a singer and instrumentalist. Hanif has been playing Dholak for 24 years now, and Jakab has been learning instruments from a very early age.
As the interview proceeds, we learn about how the instruments were named. The two musicians also discussed the importance of promoting Rajasthani folk art and music. They explained how their music is not just a form of entertainment but a representation of their rich cultural heritage.
