"Wagon Wheel" began as an unfinished Bob Dylan chorus; Old Crow Medicine Show wrote the verses and Darius Rucker took it to #1 in 2013. "Sweet Caroline" (Neil Diamond, 1969) still gets "bah, bah, bah!" from every crowd, and Zac Brown Band's "Toes" is the beach-bar anthem of a generation. THE BALLADS. "The Sound of Silence" (Simon & Garfunkel), fingerpicked the way it was written. Ricky Nelson's "Lonesome Town" (1958). And Vince Gill's "The Hills of Caroline," with flatpicking up front. THE BARITONE COUNTRY. Don Williams' "Good Ole Boys Like Me," Alan Jackson's "Remember When," Johnny Cash's "Folsom Prison Blues" and John Denver's "Country Roads." THE ROCK AND BLUES. Bob Seger's "Old Time Rock and Roll," Bo Diddley's "Before You Accuse Me" and Chuck Berry's "Roll Over Beethoven" on a Gretsch electric. THE KEYS AND THE HARP. The piano from Lynyrd Skynyrd's "Free Bird," Elton John's "Crocodile Rock," "The House of the Rising Sun," and the harmonica from Billy Joel's "Piano Man." I've been playing guitar for over sixty years, from street corners to country clubs. One player, every style your guests ask for.
