In this video, we’re making the Soleia Bag - a classical Parisian Couture Bag with a beautiful boxy shape that’s actually easy to sew! You can use your regular sewing machine and get a stunning fabric from a dress, skirt, or jacket you don’t wear anymore. The bag comes in two sizes and you can choose between 3 different ways to make your bag strap. This high-end bag is the perfect introduction to my collection of sewing patterns for bags that are inspired by my career as a professional fashion designer. My mission is to turn unloved clothes and secondhand finds into fresh, elevated, little fashion luxuries. The Soleia Bag has a feminine, designer look without being difficult to sew, so it’s a satisfying project for advanced sewists, yet simple enough for ambitious beginners. MATERIALS AND TOOLS NEEDED: Main Fabric: Leftover fabric from curtains or clothes (dresses, shirts, skirts) Lining Fabric: Leftover lining from clothes or basic cotton from a shirt Interfacing: Bag foam or regular fusible interfacing in medium thickness from a fabric shop - or upcycle thin foam from an ironing board, felt or similar. Applique Paper if your foam doesn't have adhesive Stiff plastic to put inside the bag bottom Magnet button or press button Optional: D-rings and carabiner hooks. Pattern: Regular home printer in size US Letter or A4, or an A1 printout from a copy shop. Tools: Standard sewing machine, steam iron, paper & fabric scissors, tape, pins without plastic heads, seam ripper, thread, ruler, tailor’s chalk or disappearing fabric pen.
