D. Construction, Inc. is rebuilding a section of Interstate 80 in Joliet, Illinois. The job runs on 90 percent recycled materials, and a Kleemann MOBIREX MR 130 EVO2 mobile impact crusher is doing the work on site. ▸ Production numbers after a year on the job The machine has been in the fleet for a little over a year and has processed more than 400,000 tons so far. On a 12-hour day with startup and fueling included, the crew averages around 2,500 to 3,000 tons when classifying broken concrete to a 6-inch minus. When the crew switches the machine over to asphalt, they produce 3,500 to 5,000 tons of 1.5-inch minus capping stone that goes right back down on the job. On day one, after a short training session, the crew already moved 1,700 tons. Since then the machine has barely stopped. ▸ Ease of use and output For the operator, two things stand out about the MR 130 EVO2: it is straightforward to run, and the throughput is high. Production has doubled compared with what the crew was doing before. Featured speaker: Ray Matel, Operating Engineer – D. Construction, Inc.
