Panhale-Kaji caves are situated on the banks of a mountain stream called as Kotjai. The caves are 29 in number and of these 28 are situated on the right bank of the river Kotjai. The caves which had gone into oblivion some time after the 14th century remained unknown to the outside world. The local people knew only one cave (cave no-21). In 1973 the department of archeology undertook exploration in the area. According to a report published in the Indian express dated 23rd, May 1973, the state department of Archeology brought to the light other caves.
