Flax Tow Rolags — Starting All 64! — Spin to Mordor Prep [4/5]: Too precious to waste, too short to spin alone — it's flax tow blending time! 🌾 In this final prep episode before Spin to Mordor begins, I turn 100g of carded flax leftovers ("tow") into a luscious plant-fiber blend for a SECOND summer top. THE RECIPE 🥗 • ~100g flax tow — the "ruined" scoured flax I hand-carded back to shiny life (last video!) • Bamboo — for shine and drape • Cotton — for softness (and drafting challenges! 😅) • Teal tussah silk — because a little color makes everything better WHY THESE FIBERS? Since this will be a summer top, I went all-in on summery plant fibers. The color scheme: natural flax beige + white + a splash of glassy teal — I think it's gorgeous together, you be the judge! TECHNIQUES IN THIS VIDEO: 🔁 Hand carding a multi-fiber blend — thin layers, TWO passes (one pass = pretty streaks, two passes = subtle variegation — I show both!) 🥖 Rolling "Rolex" style rolags off the hand carder with a bamboo knitting needle — and WHY rolags beat fluffs when cotton's involved. 🧮 The math: dividing fibers into 16ths, 32nds, and yes… even more than 64 fluffs (but it's the smarter way) BONUS TWIST: I changed my mind on twist direction! 🌀 After deciding I'd spin flax "normally," the traditional counterclockwise spin with EXTRA twist won me over — my over-spun swatch is the shiniest, stretchiest, drapey-est of them all.
