I Found a Jewish Town in a 97% Muslim Country 🇦🇿 Deep in northern Azerbaijan, just across the river from the city of Quba, lies one of the most unusual communities I discovered during my travels — the Red Village, a historic settlement of Mountain Jews. This journey starts in Baku, the modern capital of Azerbaijan, and slowly takes us away from the skyscrapers, wide roads and rapidly changing face of the city towards a completely different part of the country. We travel from Baku to Quba by local bus, experiencing Azerbaijan’s public transport, bus stations, local passengers and the changing landscape along the way. Even before leaving Baku, you can see the contrast between its older neighbourhoods and the modern city that has grown around them. But once we reach Quba, Azerbaijan begins to feel completely different. Quba is quieter, smaller and much closer to the Caucasus Mountains. And just across the Gudyalchay River lies Qırmızı Qəsəbə, also known as Red Village or Krasnaya Sloboda — a historic Mountain Jewish settlement whose community has lived in this region for centuries. That was the part I wanted to understand for myself. How does a Jewish community preserve its identity inside a predominantly Muslim country? What does everyday life look like here? And after centuries of living in this region, how much of their own culture, language and traditions still remain? Instead of only reading about the place, I walk through the settlement, explore its streets and homes from the outside, observe everyday life and experience the atmosphere on the ground. The residents here belong mainly to the Mountain Jewish community, a distinct Jewish group with deep roots in the Caucasus. Red Village developed in the 18th century under the protection of the Quba Khanate and remains one of the most distinctive centres of Mountain Jewish heritage in the region. What surprised me most was how normal and peaceful everyday life felt. This vlog is not about politics or creating a religious comparison. It is about seeing with my own eyes how different communities have lived in the same region and understanding a side of Azerbaijan that many travellers never see. In this journey you’ll experience: • Baku to Quba by local bus • Azerbaijan’s bus stations and public transport • The changing face of old and modern Baku • First impressions of Quba • Local life in northern Azerbaijan • Red Village / Qırmızı Qəsəbə • The Mountain Jewish community of Azerbaijan • Jewish heritage in a Muslim-majority country • Streets, homes and everyday life in Red Village • My personal impression of how safe and comfortable the area felt • Evening life in Quba • Local Azerbaijani food • A completely different side of Azerbaijan This journey showed me that Azerbaijan is much more diverse than the image you may have before visiting. From Baku’s modern skyline to a small Jewish settlement near the Caucasus Mountains, the country changes completely within a few hours. And that is what made this journey special — not just finding a Jewish town, but understanding how this community has managed to preserve its identity and traditions for generations. This is my complete Raw & Real journey from Baku to Quba and Red Village. 🇦🇿 📍 Route: Baku → Quba → Red Village, Azerbaijan 🎬 Type: Raw Travel Vlog • Local Culture • Religious Heritage • Bus Journey • On-Ground Experience ⚠️ DISCLAIMER: This video documents my personal travel experience in Azerbaijan for informational, cultural and entertainment purposes.
