I wound one warp chain out of color order, rearranging all its ends as I sleyed the reed. This meant that the cross made on the warping board was not going to be useful as I beamed the warp chains through the reed and heddles. So I re-created what I'm calling a helping cross, or beaming cross, with my lease sticks. If you frequently warp from front to back or design in the reed, you may already know this trick. It can help minimize tangles in the warp chains as you beam.
