Surreal, poetic, and joyful: when an artist designs a newspaper — Die Welt and Ellsworth Kelly

Disclaimer: I have to apologize for my right hand looking particularly gnarly! I just had stitches removed from my fingers and I am very much in the process of healing. [Ep 5] This special edition newspaper features a collaboration between the German daily, Die Welt, and the artist Ellsworth Kelly. Since 2010, the newspaper has had an annual program that commissioned a contemporary artist to reimagine the design and format according to their vision. In Kelly’s experience, his abstract canvases of irregular shapes and vivid colors replaced all imagery (except for advertisements) in the paper. The result is a startlingly fresh design object that challenges the function of a paper and invites the reader to contemplate the meaning of the art, the news, and our world.
