10 ESSENTIAL 3D Printing Tools Every Maker Should Own!

If you own a 3D printer, the printer itself is only HALF the story. 🛠️ In this video, I’m breaking down some of the most useful tools I use constantly for 3D printing, cosplay, model assembly, cleanup, post-processing, and fixing prints. Whether you just bought your first printer or you’re already building giant cosplay projects, these are the tools that can make your life MUCH easier. We’re going beyond the printer itself and looking at the stuff that actually lives on my workbench — bed scrapers, deburring tools, adhesives, rotary tools, cutters, heat guns, filament storage and even one of my absolute favorites: the plastic welder. Some of these tools cost very little, but they can completely change the way you work with your prints. 🛠️ TOOLS COVERED IN THIS VIDEO ► BED SCRAPER Getting a stubborn print off the build plate doesn’t have to turn into a wrestling match. I compare the traditional putty-knife-style scraper with the thin steel-edge style that has become one of my favorite tools. ► DEBURRING TOOL Great for cleaning rough edges and preparing printed parts for assembly. If you’re joining multiple pieces together and want clean seams, this little tool can be surprisingly useful. ► 3D PRINTING ADHESIVES We talk about two completely different types of adhesion: super glue for assembling printed parts and glue sticks for improving build-plate adhesion. They’re also a sponsor of the channel. ► DREMEL / ROTARY TOOL If you’re getting serious about cosplay or large prints, a rotary tool can save an enormous amount of sanding time. Swap between sanding drums, cutting tools and other attachments to quickly clean, shape and finish printed parts. ► NIPPERS / FLUSH CUTTERS Simple? Yes. Essential? Absolutely. A sharp pair of precision cutters is fantastic for removing supports, strings and small imperfections. Just don’t destroy your good precision cutters by using them on everything in the workshop! ► HEAT GUN One of the most powerful tools on the list. A heat gun can remove fine stringing and can also be used to reshape thermoplastics after printing. I show how I used heat to reshape parts of my 3D printed He-Man armor around a body form. Just remember: too much heat can quickly warp or ruin a print. ► FILAMENT DRYER / DRY BOX Moisture can cause popping, poor surface quality and failed prints. A dry box or active filament dryer can help keep moisture-sensitive filament ready to print — and some systems allow you to print directly from the dryer. ► FILAMENT What exactly do I mean when I keep saying "filament?" I show you the spool, how the material feeds into the printer and a couple examples from SUNLU and TECBEARS. ► PLASTIC WELDER / HOT STAPLER This might be the coolest tool in the video. A plastic welder uses heated metal staples that sink into the plastic, reinforcing the joint between printed pieces.
