A Montgomery Ward Mystery: Vintage California Road Trip? | OGGHY Lost Reels #2

A forgotten road trip, a Montgomery Ward department store, vintage automobiles, and a possible airfield. Where was this 8mm home movie filmed, and when? Welcome to **OGGHY Lost Reels**, where forgotten family films become historical mysteries waiting to be solved. This episode features approximately six and a half minutes of vintage 8mm footage from a family collection of nearly 30 original home-movie reels. The camera takes us past a Montgomery Ward store, parking lots filled with vintage cars, tree-lined roads, wooded landscapes, and what may be a small airport or airfield. The scenery suggests a possible California road trip, but the exact locations and filming dates remain unconfirmed. *THE STORY BEHIND THE FILMS* Following my grandmother's passing, my mother—her only child—passed this collection of family home movies along to me, knowing my lifelong interest in photography. Decades later, these films are being digitized and shared so their forgotten places, everyday moments, and historical details can be preserved and rediscovered. *HELP US SOLVE THE MYSTERY* Do you recognize the Montgomery Ward location? Can you identify any of the automobiles, buildings, roads, or landscapes? Your knowledge could help us uncover where these films were shot and when. Please share your observations in the comments, preferably with the video timestamp. This footage is presented with its original handheld camera movements, preserving the authentic character of the film. *ABOUT OGGHY LOST REELS* An ongoing archival film project documenting vintage American life, travel, family experiences, and changing landscapes through rediscovered 8mm home movies.
