Between the River and the Forest | Chub & Deer on the Wild Drava

The Drava is never in a hurry. It winds quietly through the forests, building and reshaping sandbanks, carving its banks, while the summer afternoon slowly fades above the water. A kayak, a fishing rod, and a few hours on the river. Paddling with the current, casting beneath the trees along the shore, until the daylight gradually disappears. From the evening forest comes the deep call of red deer, and as darkness settles, an entirely different world awakens along the Drava. At dawn, everything begins again. Breakfast by the water, then back onto the river. Long hours of paddling and fishing, chub and asp, quiet backwaters, and the ever-moving current of the Drava. At the end of the day, there is only a late meal left to prepare: freshly fried fish, boiled sweet potatoes and steamed vegetables, enjoyed beside the river. Nothing extraordinary happened. Just a day spent on the Drava. And sometimes, that is all you need.
