Shiradi Ghat is part of National Highway 75 on the stretch from Bengaluru to Mangaluru. The road on this section has been in very bad condition for over 10 years. Last year, a truck overturned at night. What if it was a bus full of passengers? The Bengaluru-Mangaluru highway is a very busy route used by trucks and passengers vehicles. KSRTC runs several buses on the route. Many of these buses are luxury buses, some of the best-in-the-class vehicles on Indian roads. What if any one of these buses had overturned? Many tourists from Bengaluru take the highway to Mangaluru on their way to Sakleshpur, Chikkamagaluru or even Madikeri. They usually get off the NH75 at Hassan. Sakleshpur comes after Hassan. The Shiradi Ghat is between Sakleshpur and Mangaluru. Most tourists do not travel to Mangaluru. This stretch is mostly used by people from the coastal region of Karnataka. But, even if you have not travelled on the Shiradi Ghat, you must have heard about it. It has been in the news for all the wrong reasons, mostly during the monsoon when the poor condition of the road makes the highway unsuitable for vehicles. The biggest mystery is that this stretch of the highway - Shiradi Ghat - has been in a really bad condition for over 10 years despite being a crucial link between the State Capital and the port of Mangaluru, and the coastal region. The irony is that the coastal region has close to a dozen engineering colleges. Yet, no one has been able to repair the road on Shiradi Ghat for over 10 years. What is the reason???
