The Crab and the Knot

The survival story of the horseshoe crab and red knot, told through music, art, storytelling and science. It begins with a short video, SOS From the Water’s Edge, by Lisa Smith featuring interviews with scientists exploring the horseshoe crab and red knot’s delicate relationship. The program continues with a chamber musical performance by Arpeggione Ensemble, filmed at the Parker River National Wildlife Refuge. During the performance, storyteller Judith Black tells a poetic tale about the horseshoe crab (an ancient animal ), red knots (an intrepid bird), and coastal ecology. Susan Quateman's silk paintings of horseshoe crabs, red knots, and the salt marsh are incorporated into the performance.
