Noise From the Cranium Episode 57: Avant Goes the Weasel

I was listening to a David Sylvian album the other day and was struck by how odd it was. He was really out there in the ether. I started thinking about other musicians who had success in the rock and pop music world and used it as a springboard for some of their loftier ideas. In this episode I’m going to spotlight artists like Scott Walker, David Sylvian, Tom Waits and Captain Beefheart, who took a hard left turn and ended up in the avant-garde. Then there is Alice Cooper, who went from an obscure psychedelic/experimental band to a hard rock hitmaker.
