Koreans of Central Asia have been continuing their Korean ethnicity. Characteristic feature of the Korean Diaspora – their special ability to adapt to new ecological, economic and socio-cultural conditions. The Koreans adapted to the new living conditions of the Tsarist Empire and, later, of Soviet Russia The second generation was forced to adapt to Central Asia. The third generation has to adapt to the new sovereign states of the post-Soviet area On the one hand, they are Koreans, of course, and they have much in common with “true” Koreans: genetic roots, anthropological type, culture and language. On the other hand, they are very much different from other Koreans: they have undergone many changes in their mentality, ethnic identity, language, customs, cuisine and even appearances. The level of self-esteem and ethnic identity among Korean adults is very high. The isolation and divergence of Koreans in Central Asia and Russia also high rates of interethnic marriages may aggravate the problem of preserving the Koryo Saram as a unique Korean sub ethnos.
