The Grimsa Fly Fishing Zone in Folldal - Destination Norway 2026 - Episode 1

This year I have spent another two weeks in Norway in the second half of July, just a bit more to the North than last year, discovering new rivers and revisiting some nice spots from last year. For the first 5 days which were mostly spent fishing (with some hiking included) I had my base in a cabin in Folldal (Northeast of the Rondane National Park). This video is about the first day (19 July, 2026) of fishing which took me to the fly fishing only zone of the nearby river Grimsa. (They only sell 10 licences per day for this 18 km of the river, you can get yours here: https://www.inatur.no/fiske/5a1fcdafe... for ~24 EUR/day.) I started at the upstream border of the area, and targeted mainly the deeper sections. I fished around 3 different locations (including 5 pools) during the day, each of these was extremely scenic! I caught 32 fish: 21 grayling and 11 brown trout. 25 fish was caught using a nymph under an indicator, while 7 on the dry fly. The most memorable fish was a 47 cm grayling (my personal best), and the few grayling that I caught on the dry fly in the late evening (which took a lot of fly changes and technical casting). Grayling were generally large here, with many 40+ cm ones in the deeper pools.
